Implementation of Good Health Great Hair Phase 5 Launch

In 2016, Kaiser Permanente launched the Good Health Great Hair (GHGH) outreach initiative to bring critical health and social support services to Baltimore City communities. The Good Health Great Hair Barbershop and Salon Outreach Program is an award-winning* example of total health in action. Our program addresses physical health through clinical screenings at barbershops and salons in Baltimore City, mental health with community conversations and referrals, and social health by offering important support services to participants who need them most. Phase 4 of GHGH ended on July 30, 2020. Although in-person sessions were cancelled because of the pandemic, we continued to host virtual social support and wellness sessions. Virtual sessions included the Mind Health Shop Talks, fitness and nutrition classes, and financial wellness programs. Since the GHGH program’s launch, it’s served 5,000 participants.
Phase 5 of GHGH will officially kick off on October 2, 2020. As we continue our efforts to enhance the program, we have added two new social support partners. We’re excited to announce that Program Director and CEO of Brown and Healthy, Michelle Antoinette Nelson, will be our new wellness partner. Brown & Healthy is a minority-owned wellness company that will provide nutrition sessions and group fitness classes to the GHGH community participants. This is a great opportunity for us to increase our social media presence through connecting with Brown & Healthy’ s network of over 5,000 followers.
We’d also like to announce the addition of the Future Baltimore Urban Agricultural Program. This program is one of the nine programs included in the Future Baltimore flagship partnership with Bon Secours Community Works. Food grown on the Bon Secours urban farm and produce from the Maryland Food Bank will be distributed at no cost on a biweekly basis. We look forward to continuing to provide these vital and on-site services to the community.
